Stepping Back Is Good For the Soul

Recently, I took some time to step back and step away from here. I needed the break to reflect. refresh and reenergize. Here's what I confirmed for myself:

Each day is a blessing. Each day is an opportunity to start afresh. Each day gives you a different feeling and the chance to build yourself even better.

Life's hard knocks have taught me how to survive and how to stand up for myself. Others should not mistake my good-natured demeanour for being a pushover.

Being loud and obnoxious has never been my style. Sometimes, staying silent is the best option. It quickly quiets those looking to stir up trouble when none exists and they realize they can't bait you into a meaningless debate.

Salt and pepper shakers. I have sets that belonged to my great-grandmother. my grandmother, my mother and my own. All but one pair (that I use every day) are sitting in my china cabinet. The old ones are rarely taken out but hold fond memories of special family get together and are hard to part with.

Last week I had my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Due to how vaccines are being distributed here, my second dose is scheduled for July 30. This will be a huge step towards getting back some normalcy.

Do you ever ‘step back’ to reassess?
What do you own a ridiculous amount of?

Wow...Canada is really behind. I had both of mine in February. My wife in March......they’re vaccinating 16 year olds here now....

Congrats on getting your first vaccination!

I don't step back as often as I should - thanks for the reminder.
I own a ridiculous amount of seeds: I have more vegetable seeds than I can possibly plant in 5 years. I just love finding varieties new to me.

Elevate me...

The distribution has had all kinds of issues including delayed shipments. They started with the oldest 80+, most vulnerable and were lowering eligibility in 5 year increments. Now they have added by postal code in the ‘hotspots’ and some 18+ are eligible.

What do you usually plant? Do you also have flowers?
A green thumb is something I definitely do NOT have. I always said my best plant was my artificial one .

Yay, congrats on your first dose! I tried to schedule an appointment, but after I filled out the questionnaire, it responded with a weird jumble of "this recipient is under 16, this recipient has already received vaccine, & try again later" it was a very strange response and I checked back in later and ALL the appointment slots in my county have been filled up. (Oh the fun of vaccine scheduling.)

Speaking of stepping back! I feel it may be like a movie where I need to wait for a week or so to let the hardcore crowds do it first.

Yes! As much as I complain, I know that every day is indeed a blessing! Sometimes I forget about that, but I am also quick to remind myself.

I don't know if it's a "ridiculous" amount but by typical standards, I do have well over a dozen cameras, and I stopped counting at around 30 odd lenses.
I don't think it's ridiculous because there is still more cameras and lenses that I am planning on getting. Some are professional related, some are for my pleasure and art.

I did notice when you haven't been blogging and I was missing you! (hug!)

Congratulations on getting your first vaccine. But why such a long wait in between doses? I got my first one and the second one three weeks later it was also the Pfizer vaccine as well.

I agree with you on stepping back as you know I have stepped back from time to time and to be honest I didn't miss it. I did miss those that I have contact with but with the B/S that goes on with the site, and how I've felt at times I need to get away.

Here, the goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible with their first shot. Based on shipment supply dates, the best way to do that is to wait the recommended maximum number of weeks between first and second doses. Shipment delays continue to be an issue.
Yes, I totally understand the need to take a break for a variety of reasons. Keep well 😊.

There have been all kinds of problems here with shipment delays and booking systems so I am glad to have gotten my first shot with no side effects.
The word ‘ridiculous’ is subjective. Some would view your amount of camera equipment vas out-of-the-ordinary, while others would think it quite reasonable.
It is nice to be ‘missed’. A hug 🤗 is something I miss more than anything so thank you for the virtual one. Keep safe!

Congratulations 👏 on being fully vaccinated! Seems the ‘experts’ everywhere are learning on the fly and keep changing recommendations. We have to keep looking after ourselves, knowing things will get better.

I plant carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, kale, snap peas, cucumbers, and green beans from seed. I already have enough carrot seed but can't pass up packets of red carrots, purple carrots, rainbow carrots, etc. I have pole beans and bush beans, romaine, spring mix, green curly leaf, buttercrunch, and red leaf lettuce. I always have to give lettuce away. I sometimes will plant sunflowers or morning glory from seed but I mostly buy annual and perennial plants. I don't know much about indoor plants, though.

Thank you for the warm reception . There was a very foggy start to today but that has cleared and there's lots of sunshine and blue skies. Looking forward to heading out for a refreshing walk. Keep safe !

Wow! I am impressed . I probably have space to have gardens but simply don't have the inclination or interest to do so. I admire those who have the skills and patience.

Last week I also got the vaccine, and my next one is on July 30th as well. Hmmm... We'll BOTH be protected finally. 👍 I haven't been to Toronto in four years.

I constantly reassess; in fact, I was reassessing just the other day and concluded — fuck her, I want nothing to do with her.
Today I reassessed THAT thought and realized that perhaps, I was hasty. But I tend to flip; it's a character flaw I'm working on. I wonder what she'll say or if she even cares. 😶

Too much of? 🤔
I'm not much of a hoarder. I'd say digital music. I've lost track of how many thousands and thousands of songs I have. Anything and everything (good) ever recorded between the twenties till modem times. It's overwhelming.
I've stopped making copies. I guess THAT'S why there's YouTube.

But the old stuff I have, you can't find ANYWHERE! ❗❗😎🍷🍷

Yes, I have heard that often people have a reaction to the 2nd shot. So many factors impact whether someone does or not. Definitely agree, a little discomfort over being intubated or dead is a no-brainer!

Welcome back. Have to admit that I haven't been spending as much time on here as I used to so I didn't realize you hadn't been on. A ridiculous amount of digital pictures from travelling - some really should be deleted - fuzzy, road sign right in the middle stuff but even though the quality isn't great in some of them they all have a memory attached to them.

I haven't been to the Montreal area since I was in grade school and went to Expo'67. I wasn't implying being a hoarder just an observation of how many salt and pepper sets I have accumulated. Actually, I probably have even more silverware: full tea services, plates and assorted other items that also belonged to my great-grandmother, grandmother and mother. Some things are just hard to part with because of the sentimental memories and images they hold. As for reassessing, no doubt she was doing the same thing

Pictures are tough to decide whether to hold onto or not. I recently put a slew of my travel pictures onto a flash drive. If nothing else, it freed up storage space on my laptop. Now, if I could only decide what to do with the stacks of photo albums piled up in a closet Always nice to have you drop by and share your thoughts.

I understand what you mean about china etc. The younger generation seems to have no interest in things that hold so many memories for us nor do they want the clutter. My shot was also Pfizer and have had so side effects. I ill be glad to get the second one and be done with it but here we currently have to wait 4 months! I have a relatively inexpensive all-in-one printer/copier/scanner - so I have taken several of my "old" photos, scanned them to the flash drive/external hard drive for posterity. Some of those pictures are of my first day of the first grade of school with my best childhood friend (we still keep in touch) in 1953, my High School group graduation picture form 1965 and a picture of a family reunion taken in the late 1950's

What a great idea! I hadn’t thought of that and should try a few pictures to check the quality. More great memories to tuck away.

Thank you for the warm greeting. The Covid situation here has become dire. Daily case counts, just in my province are now averaging 4400, our ICUs have over 700 patients and deaths are over 20. The stay-at-home order has been extended till May 20, additional public health restrictions added and police can arbitrarily stop anyone and question why they are outside and ask for their name and address; non-compliance will result in a $750+ fine. Thank goodness I have had my first Pfizer injection.

Downsizing can be difficult because of the memories associated with different items. I have to do it when I am in the ‘right’ frame of mind. I have started taking pictures of some things that I find particularly difficult to part with. Thanks for stopping by. You are welcome anytime.
